What are your views on Windows Vista? Many have cited it as less reliable than XP, with ‘pretty’ (pointless) features. Do you think Microsoft are pulling too close a comparison with themselves and Apple? Are you an avid Vista user and can’t see what all the Vista viciousness is about? Maybe you’re just thinking about sticking with XP for as long as you can…

ACS have succumbed to the pressure of joining the latest social networking phenomenon – Twitter. ACS decided to join after realising the benefits alongside fellow businesses:
“UK small businesses are embracing microblogging site Twitter with around 700,000 UK small businesses now using the service. According to research by mobile operator O2, UK SMEs are sending around three million posts or “tweets” per day.” States Tim Ferguson on Silicon.com

It has been reported that a new worm called Conficker could have infected anywhere between 2 million and 10 million computers. There is “No clear discovery yet of how these computers resources may be used by cybercriminals.”
The best ways to protect your companys IT systems from such attacks are to not only keep your anti-virus software up to date, but also keep on top of Microsofts security patches.
The Conficker worms worst damage was achieved because of users not installing a Microsoft update. “Conficker was able to quietly spread in the months following this announcement (of an update) because nearly a third of enterprises did not patch their systems”.
“The Conficker worm and the new worms of the future will thrive on those organizations that do not follow these practices.”

If you improve your website now, you could reap the benefits come Christmas 2009, a report has shown.
The 2009 Logan Tod Online Shopping Index has predicted that despite the economic downturn, online sales may well increase considerably this year. This is concurrent with last year, where there was an increase in online shopping equivalent to £653.2 m.
Generally, the growth has been most prominent in the 45 – 54+ age bracket, as consumers in this bracket have become more comfortable with online shopping, and now represent the most successful sector for growth.
“Over 60% of respondents from this group indicated that they will buy more online this Christmas.” – Public Technology Net
So if you’re unsure whether you should be working on your website this year, think again. If you set your sights on growing your customer base now, you could see great results come December.
“70% of UK adults cited previous good experience as a key factor in which sites they visited.” – Public Technology Net
So if your product is in any way desirable, givable or giftable, give ACS a call today. We can improve your existing website, make it easier to use, and even create a website where you can easily log in yourself and update it as much as you like. The report shows that the quality of the sites visited largely affected whether customers returned and /or bought from the site so let us help you to boost your online sales this year.

We’ve had a few queries of late regarding our policy of turning off/disabling hosting packages if payment has not been received.
Our policy with regards to the provision of hosting is clearly stated in our Terms and Conditions of Service and hasn’t changed significantly in a number of years. Paragraph 1.4 of our Terms and Conditions clearly states:
Full payment must be made at the time of order unless agreement has been given for payment by invoice instead. All such payments are due strictly within 14 days of invoice. Failure to pay within this timeframe will lead to the service being withdrawn until payment is made in full.
If payment has not been received and cleared by midnight on the expiration day, your hosting package will automatically cease to function. Any and all services (Web, Mail, FTP etc) will cease to be available will not be re-activated until payment has been received and cleared. ACS Limited will not and cannot be held responsible for any loss that may be incurred during this period.
Our accounts department issues invoices and reminders for hosting packages a month prior to renewal. We currently offer a number of easy payment methods including Cheque and direct bank transfer (BACS). Details on how to pay are included at the bottom of every invoice we issue.
The decision to disable any hosting package is not one we take lightly. There are very few instances in which we will deliberately disable hosting accounts, but when do so, it will be done in full accordance with established and advertised policies.
As always, if you have any comments and suggestions, please feel free to send them to us at suggestions[at]appliedconsultancy.com
